4th February statement - 100 sponsors withdrawn

On 16th January 2012 Kyle Sandilands returned to his radio program, the Kyle and Jackie O show, which airs during the much coveted breakfast period reaching millions of Australians on a daily basis. His audience includes young children and teenagers getting ready for school. These impressionable young minds are regularly confronted with discussions on sex acts, murdering transsexuals, as well as Kyle's insults directed toward any female who is carrying extra weight (including his co-host).
In November 2011 these young minds were also subjected to Kyle's rants against an online journalist which included the threat "watch your mouth girl or I will hunt you down". This is not the first time Kyle has threatened a female journalist. In 2006 Kyle stated that he would hire a private investigator to film a pregnant journalist’s family and post it on the Internet. Further to this, in 2007 during an interview with Andrew Denton, Kyle stated he wanted to punch a certain Australian comedian "in the throat". Kyle Sandilands has a continuous history of verbal assaults and threats of violence against people HE sees have done him wrong.
After the November verbal assault and threats and the December 2011 discussion on "killing the trannie", a dedicated group of Australians came together and decided enough was enough. We no longer want our kids to be around other kids who think it’s ok to call someone fat and threaten violence. We do not want our daughters dating boys who think it’s ok to "hunt you down" if our daughters disagree with them. We do not want our sexually and emotionally developing teenagers to think that there is anything wrong with being lesbian or gay, we don't want them to judge bisexual or transgender people, we don't want them to think that it is okay to "kill the trannie".

In the past two months the SACK VILE KYLE campaign has been contacting Austereo’s sponsors and we are pleased to announce that 100 businesses have now withdrawn all financial backing of the Kyle and Jackie O show. The SACK VILE KYLE campaign has persuaded them that advertising on the award winning, popular radio program (and therefore contributing to Kyle's multimillion dollar wage) is not ethical business practice. These companies understand that by advertising on the Kyle and Jackie O show they are supporting this behaviour. They have chosen not to.

Recently the following companies have been contacted via email, twitter and Facebook, and have confirmed that they do not support Kyle Sandilands behaviour and have withdrawn advertising.

Update and thank you 25th Jan

There are many SACK VILE KYLE facebook groups that rose to existence following the November 2011 outbursts from radio shock jock Kyle Sandilands, after he verbally attacked a newspaper journalist for criticising one of his recent television shows.  This vitriolic attack outraged both women and men across the country, and brought together one such group of dedicated Australians who are committed to working together to bring an end to this man’s reign of vulgarity and assault on public airwaves.  It therefore came as no surprise then, that when the women co-founders of this particular group, reached out to friends, family, co-workers and other networks, inviting them to join in their plight to bring this man down, the group membership went from national to global within months. Recent media stories about this group, and the work they have tirelessly put into the group objective, resulted in an explosion of requests to join the group.

We now have over 250 people working around the clock contacting companies that have advertisements on either the Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show or the Kyle & Jackie O website. A lot of the companies that we have approached stated they had not been aware that their advertisements had been placed in spots on the 2Day Fm schedule, that associated them with Kyle and Jackie O. This has been due to 3rd party media buyers, bonus placement spots and other marketing arrangements. These companies have worked with us to identify when and where their advertisements have appeared and have then promptly advised us that they have requested their brand not appear on any show or website associated with Kyle Sandilands.

In recent days our members have contacted and received notification that the following companies have withdrawn advertising from either the Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show, or Kyle & Jackie O website

Beaurepairs
Vitamin King

Bulla Splits
Booty Camp

Statement 23rd Jan 2012

On Thursday 19th January the Sydney Morning Herald and its related companies posted a story about our efforts to rid the public airways of Vile Kyle. In the four days that have passed since this story was originally published we have been inundated with requests from people that support our campaign and would like to like. Our group membership has grown from around 60 dedicated members to over 250 people who want to see Kyle gone and who are happy to follow our successful, non-confrontational strategy of hitting Austereo where it hurts, the hip pocket. These members join us in working tirelessly to achieve our goals and their efforts are outstanding. Since the article ran, a further five companies have either withdrawn their advertising or have indicated to us that they are looking into how and where their advertising dollars are spent, after being flooded with requests from our members to justify how supporting Kyle Sandilands can have a positive impact on their brand. We will continue to ask this via email, phone calls, Facebook and letters to those companies that continue to sponsor Kyle. Whilst this campaign is being run by four committed women from Australia, we have been supported by people and groups from all over the world. As well as the members in our group, members and staff from Collective Shout and Change.org have been steadfast in their support of both the four of us and our campaign. www.tinyurl.com/vilekyle (Facebook) @sackvilekylefb (twitter)

Jenny Craig remove advertising

Tonight Jenny Craig issued a statement on their Facebook account saying they made a mistake and have asked Austereo to remove their advertising. Great work everyone and thank you to Jenny Craig for listening!!!

Jenny Craig "One thing about Jenny Craig is that we listen. We listen, we understand and we make an enormous effort to walk in the shoes of others.

We badly misjudged public perception of Kyle Sandilands. We have taken what has been said seriously. Mel B has happily been part of the 2DAY FM Breakfast show for the better part of last year. Our intention was to support our ambassador in her broader media role.

We feel sorry we have offended so many people, underestimated the sentiment against Kyle and are clearly upset that we made such a mistake. We have instructed 2DAY FM that our advertising is to be discontinued on the Kyle & Jackie O show, and the rest of their schedule immediately." https://www.facebook.com/jennycraigausnz

PLEASE THANK THESE COMPANIES

@SackVileKylefb OPSM believes in promoting positive messages in the media. We’ve acted today to ensure this is reflected in our advertising. ( @OPSM http://www.facebook.com/OPSMAU )

(Via facebook) Mazda Australia Thanks for bringing that to our attention Josie, we had requested all advertising be pulled from the show. We are correcting this oversight as we speak and it should be gone soon. Thanks again, Luke (http://www.facebook.com/mazdaaus?sk=wall @MazdaAus )

Kia Australia Just an update; we're communicating to our agency that the banners be removed. Will update you soon. Thanks again for bringing it to our attention :) http://www.facebook.com/KiaAustralia

Warner Bros. Movie World - Gold Coast, Australia Hello, Thank you for your comment. Our advertisements did indeed appear on the 2Day FM website, however this is in no way a direct endorsement of Kyle Sandilands or his program. The ads in question have now been removed http://www.facebook.com/movieworldgoldcoast

Jenny Craig "One thing about Jenny Craig is that we listen. We listen, we understand and we make an enormous effort to walk in the shoes of others.

ING DIRECT Australia Hi, we do not have any advertisements on this webpage - they were all removed. @INGDIRECTAUS @CEO_INGDIRECTAU http://www.facebook.com/INGDIRECTAUS

SEA WORLD - Hi Melanie, No we dont advertise with his show http://www.facebook.com/seaworldgoldcoast

Westpoint Shopping Centre wrote: "Hi Kate, This generic ad randomly appears throughout the Today FM website. We are currently in the process of getting it removed from the Kyle and Jackie O homepage. Thanks for the heads up tho :)"  https://www.facebook.com/westpointblacktown

Commonwealth Bank http://www.facebook.com/commonwealthbank @CommBank @JassyOakley Thanks very much for your comment Jas. Commonwealth Bank does not advertise on the Kyle and Jackie O program.

StyleTrend have requested their media buyers not use 2dayfm We received some feedback yesterday about StyleTread display ads that were on the Kyle and Jackie O webpage and we're sorry if that was offensive to anyone. StyleTread aren't actively advertising or targeting that site.
To get a little technical (because its not quite straight-forward) our web advertising is through various networks of display ad publishers, which then in turn feature our ads on w...ebsites that subscribe to those publishers. What this means is that we are not able to control or exclude certain sites within a publishers network - this is an automatic 3rd party process. We have requested that publisher to exclude this site if possible and have also excluded that site on another network on which we have more control.
Thank you for your feedback and we will keep an active watch on this.
Happy regards, Alex, Customer Happiness Manager

William Blue College of Hospitality http://www.facebook.com/wbcollege
Car History www.facebook.com/carhistory?sk=wall  CarHistory.com.au can confirm that we are not advertising on any radio programs fronted by Kyle Sandilands. We have been made aware in recent days that a banner promoting CarHistory.com.au had appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O webpage as part of a wider promotion. This was not intentional on our behalf and we have been assured by the station that this will no longer appear. We appreciate the ongoing interest and concern that is being shown on this issue
The Art Gallery of NSW has postponed advertising on the Kyle and Jackie O show. The Southern Cross Austereo network is a partner of the Picasso Exhibition and as part of the agreement we receive advertising across their programs nationwide.... Because it is a sponsorship arrangement, the Gallery does not dictate when and where announcements are scheduled. The network has been a supporter of the current Picasso exhibition, for which we are grateful. However, given the current situation, the Art Gallery of NSW has postponed advertising for the time being on the Today FM breakfast program.

Westpoint  Thanks for your message. We share your disappointment – we requested that the ads be removed from the Kyle and Jackie O page of the 2DayFM website and unfortunately this has not occurred.
...
We have been advised that 2DayFM are still in the process of adjusting their web content as per our direction – please be assured we are in constant contact with our advertising team to get this resolved as a priority.

We hope to see you back in the Centre sometime soon. Thanks again from the Westpoint team
