Vile Kyle Bad Behviour

Thank you to Sack Vile Kyle supporters Chris & Melanie for compiling this timeline of Vile Kyle Bad Behviour
  • §  2000 - In Brisbane in 2000, Sandilands ordered a young staffer - a man he called "Shit Boy" because "everything he did was shit" - to masturbate in one of Austereo's Black Thunder promotional vehicles. (He sent a second staff member down to count how many songs it took.) A year later, Sandilands was promoted to the Sydney office.
§  2005 - In 2005, he encouraged one of Austereo's attractive, blonde interns to strip naked on a street corner in Bondi Junction, Sydney. When Austereo's then general manager, Patrick Joyce, tried to explain that public nudity is illegal (not to mention a potential nightmare for the HR department), Sandilands waited for him to exit the building then sent another naked woman into his office to swivel around in his office chair. Six months after that, Sandilands got a pay rise that brought his salary up to $1 million.
§  2006 - When the Kyle and Jackie O Show became Sydney's top-rating FM breakfast radio show in 2006, Austereo rewarded Sandilands with a gold microphone (unpacked from its box every morning and clicked into place by interns wearing white doorman's gloves because Sandilands doesn't like to see fingerprints on it) and a cash bonus that took his salary to $2 million.
§  August 2006 - after being exposed by The Daily Telegraph for having put on a fake listener to air with a controversial story, Kyle Sandilands made the following threat: "Now the chick that I hate at Sydney Confidential [Fiona Connolly], right?...I’m thinking to hire a private investigator to go around and film her and every member of her family and then I’m going to put it on a website and I’m going to show everyone what members of her family do that are dodgy." He also called her a "fat toad", a "lying mole" and "a little cretin".
§  September 2006 - stuns contestant Jessica Mauboy by stating to her on Australian Idol that he wants her to "lose the Jelly Belly"
§  October 2006 - states on Australian Idol that contestant Bobby Fisher is a "full mong", drawing outrage from disabilities groups. His manager, Peter Wellington, explains that he wasn't making derogatory comments about disabled people, but was calling Fisher a "mong" was "...basically meant to mean ‘loser’ or ‘idiot’." Because that makes it all right.
§  March 2007 - Sandilands abuses an unknown police officer for giving him a speed ticket for going at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone. He states that the police officer is an"arsehole from the highway patrol", a "wanker" and a "pencil neck". (nobody is quite sure what that last one is... including Monica Attard who hosted Media Watch at the time). He later states to Maxim that "I keep losing my licence thanks to the highway patrol".
§  August 2007 - Sandilands was on the receiving end (for once) of a very public humiliation when comedian and radio rival Dave Hughes stood up at the Logie Awards and said, "Kyle Sandilands is a massive dickhead" - and the whole room roared with laughter. Sandilands was in the room when it happened, and he tried to laugh it off, but it was a childhood nightmare come true: there he was, one of the highest-paid, most successful people in the country, and people thought he was a jerk. Kyle Sandilands states on Andrew Denton's Enough Rope interview show that he will "punch Dave Hughes in the throat" after he was insulted by the comedian.
§  September 2007 - Jay Whalan, leader singer of the band Frenzhal Rhomb, alleges that Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O threatened their label to have Frenzal Rhomb's songs banned from Austereo radio stations After the on-air blowup with Frenzhal Rhomb, his producer Ryan Wellington is removed from the show
§  August 2007 - Sandilands tells his audience that "Look not everyone that smokes get these lung cancer and all these things". As a result, the Cancer Institute NSW and 13-QUIT cancel their advertising from the show.
§  June 2008 - Kyle and Jackie O play the "Vaginey line-up" game, in which a group of female listeners disrobe and listener Vince had to identify his girlfriend's vagina. During this same week Kyle probed listeners with a variety of questions, including one where he asked "has Rita gone down on a girl?"
§  July 2008 - Kyle and Jackie O give an "apology" facial to their newsreader, Geoff Field. However, the substance used is bull semen, which he injests.
§  July 2008 - Kyle and Jackie O run a "Daisy the Fat Pig" competition on their Hot 30 Countdown. "Daisy" is a morbidly obese women, and the game involves hiding items like an iPod between her flaps of skin - contestants must dig inside the "back flabs" to find the devices. This so offends a work experience girl that she calls a talkback station to complain about it.
§  November 2008 - in another "Heartless hotline", listeners were urged to call in to take away the money for a boy with kidney failure. Listener Kelly called in and took the $1,000, but was then publically shamed with a face-to-face meeting with the boy, whereupon she gave back the money. She was then called "Sydney's Biggest Bitch" by the station.
§  March 2009 - for their "Heartless Hotline" segment, Kyle and Jackie O proudly state that "Amanda's husband left her and her young daughter with nothing, so we offered her a washing machine, fridge and plasma. When Glen called to steal the prizes, Sydney tore strips off him live on air! It's fight time!"
§  July 2009 - Kyle Sandilands makes an offer to Jackie Henderson (Jackie O): if she loses 4 kilograms in a week, then he will donate to Animals Australia, otherwise he will donate money to an intensive pig farm of his choice. The RSPCA releases a statement:"RSPCA and other animal welfare groups have been active in educating the community in this cruel practise. Kyle Sandilands flippant comments do little to encourage the public to make a stand on banning sow stalls. In fact, come the end of the next week, he may be financially contributing to its continuation."
§  July 2009 - the Kyle and Jackie O Show strap a 14 year old girl into a lie detector and start quizzing her about her sex life. The segment starts with the girl declaring "I'm scared. It's not fair". Sandilands then says, "She is scared everyone. Yeah." The interview continues, until the girl claims that she was raped at the age of 12. Kyle's response is "Right ... is that the only experience you've had?" The Kyle and Jackie O Show faces an immediate storm of criticism, resulting in: ACMA placing new licensing conditions on the station; the show goes into recess for 2 weeks; 15 high profile academics call for the show to be cancelled ; Kyle Sandilands being fired from the show Australian Idol; and large numbers of advertisers withdraw their advertising from the show
§  July 2009 - an unrepentant Kyle Sandilands writes for The Punch that "I've certainly pissed off a lot of journos over the years but I'm sad that they're using the rape of a 12-year-old girl to have a go at me." -
§  July 2009 - the Kyle and Jackie O Show do a segment called "Home and Away". In it, Savath and Dana Shorn, seperated through the circumstances of the Pol Pot regime, were to be reunited on the show. Saveth was not known by her real name, but was presented as "Sally" as the producers said that her name was too complicated for their listeners. The girls were only told that they would be reunited, however the show then introduced a "catch". There were two doors, if Savath opened the wrong door then Dana would be sent straight back to the U.S. without getting a chance to see her. This leads to a night of anxiety as this was never stipulated to the girls. Savath gets the door wrong, and the producers cause the two extremely distressed girls to beg Kyle Sandilands to allow them to see each other. Kyle relents, stating that "I'm sorry crying women I can't handle, come on in..." (see video on the website for the full segment)
§  August 2009 - Under the segment "Heartless hotline", a promotion was run to raise funds for a disabled child. However, when the parents called in, they were told to call those who pledged the money themselves - basically $150,000 was raised, but only about $50,000 was collected. This heartless behaviour was commented on via a group of lawyers who raised a submission to an ACMA enquiry into the radio show's ethics. there were actually MANY stunts done like this from between 2008 and 2009, however 2DayFM have been so ashamed of them that they have removed them from their website.
§  August 2009 - Does Ralph magazine interview where he talks about having sex with his now former wife, having a threesome with her and being caught masturbating in the shower. The interview, with Ralph magazine, was given before Sandilands and 2dayFM on-air partner Jackie O were suspended for broadcasting a lie detector stunt featuring a 14-year-old rape victim. Sandilands tells how he has parties at home where "girls strip to their bras and panties and dirty dance on the coffee table". Read more: At one point Sandilands lashed out at other media personalities. "F*** you, Rove. You're dead to me," he said. "There's also Merrick and Rosso, but no one gives a f*** about them." Austereo announces that future broadcasts will feature a time delay.
§  September 2009 - Kyle Sandilands racially and religiously vilifies Australian comedian Magda Szubanski, who is the then ambassador for the Jenny Craig weight loss program. Kyle states that "You put her in a concentration camp and you watch the weight fall off … like she could be skinny". Szubanski comments that "I couldn’t give two hoots about what Kyle says about me, but to trivialise what happened to people in concentration camps is abhorrent." For their comments, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O are suspended form the air for two weeks.
§  April 2010 - Geoff Field, the 2dayFM newsreader finally quits over the extensive bullying meted out to him by Kyle Sandilands. Sandilands states that "With Geoff, at one stage last year he thought, for some strange reason only to known to Geoff, that when I was having a go at him on air that he took it more and more personal, and he was running off down to HR and writing letters of complaint and bitching and carrying on."
§  April 2010 - Kyle Sandilands interviews three of Tiger Woods' former mistresses, and asks one of them "...because we heard that he's, like, massive, like a donkey, is that right? ... 'Were you surprised, [saying] 'Man, you're half Asian, half black, obviously the half black is what's going on downstairs'?" This causes president of the Anti-Discrimination Board, Stepan Kerkyasharian, to call Sandilands "utterly obnoxious", and to comment that "These remarks are not a joke. They create an environment which is saying that you can classify people according to their colour and race, and then attach to them various attributes."
§  July 2011 - Stated on air that "Hey, I like Indians. I just think India is a shithole. And even Indians think it's a shithole... They don't want to bathe in the river with the dead cows and all these dead things ... those with a shower are very lucky." When Jackie O asked whether the River Ganges was a holy river, he responded that "No, it is not. Someone has told someone a furphy, because that river is just a junkyard". These comments are then picked up by The Times of India, to national outrage -
§  August 2011 - in an interview for Maxim magazine, Sandilands boasts that "At the end of the day, I know about everyone’s skeletons. I know who’s f—king who and, for some weird reason, I’ve become the keeper of the industry’s filthy secrets. So when things in the media get really out of control, that’s when I make a call and say, “Look, unless you want me to go and tell everyone this or that, you’d better shut your f—kin’ mouth. You’ve had your fun but it’s over now.” That’s when they shit themselves."
§  November 2011 - unleashes a tirade against pop star Ricki Lee Coultor, saying that "When I got fired from Idol over that scandal, Ricki Lee dared open her back-then fat mouth and say, 'I agree with Channel Ten's decision'. Well good; my middle finger went up to Ricki Lee... I think she was wrong and she flapped them gums around about something she knew nothing about. So she's banned. I don't want to have anything to do with the bitch, ever." This also tends to show his apology about the scandal caused when he quizzed the 14 year old girl about her sex life while strapped to a lie detector was insincere.
§  November 2011 - Kyle Sandilands runs a competition where the prize is to go with him to LA if listeners answer the following question "I’ve fallen madly in love with a tranny from a nightclub in Vegas… I have asked you to be the best man at this filthy little Vegas chapel. What do you do to stop me marrying the tranny?", to which a caller is put on air and states that "You gotta for sure drug her, and get rid of… actually I have a better idea… [caller bleeped] Get rid of her! We kill her." Sandilands states that "you could win if all the other answers are worse than that." (the listener did not win the competition)
§  December 2011 - After criticism of his "Kyle and Jackie O Night with the Stars" television show, Kyle Sandilands says the following of News Ltd reporter Alison Stephenson: "Some fat slag on the Telegraph website, sorry, the, has already branded it a disaster. You can tell by reading the article she just hates us, and has always hated us. She trawled through the twitter comments and pulled out all the bad comments and ran them. What a fat bitter thing you are, you deputy editor of an online thing. You’ve got a nothing job anyway. You’re a piece of shit."You’re a bullshit artist, girl. That’s what you are. You should be fired from your job. And your hair. Your hair is very 90s... Yeah, and your blouse. You haven’t got that much titty to be wearing that low cut a blouse. Watch your mouth, girl, or I will hunt you down."
§  December 2011 - Sandilands has always had a foul mouth, but the more successful he has become, the more he has felt inclined to use it: right up until last December he felt free to call his colleagues "pissants" and "dickheads" who are "fat" and "shit" and "stupid" - not only to their faces, but on air. He also started arguing with Austereo's lawyers - intelligent people whose job it is to help him avoid a "code breach" (a breach of the Australian Commercial Radio code of practice). One example: Sandilands last year wanted to run a competition called "Pee Your Pants for Pink Tickets". Listeners would have to put on tan pants and wet themselves to get tickets to a Pink concert. One lawyer said it was immoral, to which Sandilands replied: "But is it illegal, lawyer lady?" His contempt for the idea that one needs an education to be successful is legendary.

  1. The best way to end Kyle's vile career is to build up a product list of advertisers who still support his show and call for a boycott. Sadly decency, abuse, vile behaviour will never be condemned on Australian media. too many heads would roll. But if you hit the hip pocket, there's a chance of succeeding.

  2. Actually, we have one of those already. And we're using it.

  3. Jacquline Kennedy???

    Got the wrong Jackie O.
